S A M JAHAN

Shikder Abir Mahmud Jahan, renowned by his news byline Sam Jahan, is a professional multi-platform journalist currently based in Dhaka.

 

Sam studied journalism in the United Kingdom and returned home to explore his journalistic career. He initially started his career at The Daily Star desk.

 

Later he single-handedly pioneered the daily’s multimedia front in 2014 by popularising the Mobile Journalism (MoJo) concept among colleagues. He also part-timed for CNN, TRT World, ABC Australia, Voice of America, South China Morning Post and Deutsche Welle.

 

Sam then joined Agence France-Presse (AFP) as its Bangladesh text-video correspondent and proudly covered the Rohingya exodus, ongoing climate crises and political turmoils in the country.

He currently works for the Reuters news agency as a Video Journalist. Sam is a SAJP Chevening fellow.

 

He won four respected international awards including Human Rights Press Awards (HRPA) and Covering Climate Now (CCN) for his groundbreaking work.

​

Sam is a renowned press trainer. He works with Deutsche Welle Akademie and Press Institute Bangladesh besides running BJIM's BuildingAssets J-School as its Chief Instructor.

 

He is the founder of BJIM along with seven of his other colleagues.
