BJIM demands justice and compensation for Saanthia journalists

Bangladeshi Journalists in International Media (BJIM) strongly condemns a recent attack on several journalists working in Saanthia town in Pabna district.

The journalists: Manik Mia, Khalekuzzaman, Taizul Islam, Iqbal Hossain, Monwar Parvez, and M J Sulov, were targeted by a group of locals while reporting on a story about vandalism in a nearby village.

The attackers reportedly became aggressive and tried to prevent the journalists from doing their job. During the altercation, Taizul's camera was snatched and damaged, and Monwar's microphone boom was thrown into a pond.

BJIM finds this incident as a blatant violation of press freedom and emphasises that such actions are completely unacceptable.

BJIM is demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and swift compensation for the journalists whose equipments were vandalised.

On behalf of all BJIM members,

SAM Jahan, Convener, BJIM

&

Faisal Mahmud, Member Secretary, BJIM
