ROZINA ISLAM

Rozina Islam is one of the leading investigative journalists in Bangladesh. She currently holds the position of special correspondent and Head of Crime Reporting at Prothom Alo, the highest circulated Bengali language daily of Bangladesh.

Rozina is well known for her fight and strong stance against corruption. Her career began back in 2002, when she started as a reporter for the Daily Sangbad. She now covers a wide variety of topics that encompass governance, corruption, justice, health, environment, energy, education, politics, government policy, and women's affairs.

Rozina received the Canadian Awards for Excellence in Bangladeshi Journalism in 2011, the UNESCO Award in 2011, the DRU-Grameenphone Best Reporter Award in the Sagor-Runi Memorial Award for investigative journalism in 2014, the Journalism Awards for the Best Investigative Report by Transparency International Bangladesh in 2015, and the Dhaka Reporters Unity Best Health Reporting Award in 2021. 

Recognised for her courage and unwavering commitment to telling the truth, Rozina has been honoured as one of the twenty women journalist heroes by the Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ) last year. 

For her role in the battle against corruption through journalism, US department of states conferred her with ‘Anti-Corruption Champions’ award in 2022. In the year before that, Free Press Unlimited, an organisation based in Netherland’s Amsterdam had given her ‘Free Press Award’ 2021 in the most resilient journalist category for her courageous journalism.
