Monirul Alam was born in Old Dhaka in 1975.

 

He took up photography in 1994. After completing his Bachelors in Accounting from the National University, he studied photography in Pathshala - the South Asian Institute of Photography - and graduated from there.

 

Monirul worked as the deputy chief photojournalist in The Daily Prothom Alo newspaper for a while before he joined the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) as its Bangladesh photographer.
